SXSW Trailer: 13 SINS Goes Red Band

13-Sins

SXSW 2014 is coming to a close and we were already talking about the festival. The two big winners were Fort Tilden in the narrative feature category and The Great Invisible in the the documentary equivalent and there were plenty of other great films that premiered at South by Southwest, but this time I want to draw your attention to its always-fun Midnighters section.

The 2014 program is consisting of eight world premieres, and one U.S. premiere and Daniel Stamm’s 13 Sins also had its world premiere Friday for SXSW’s midnight screeners.

The horror flick is actually a remake of 13: Game of Death, a psychological horror movie from Thailandand, but the red band trailer makes the film look a bit like Cheap Thrills. However, the latest genre outing from The Last Eexorcism‘s director Stamm has a lot going for it – it had Ron Perlmanm, for one and Mark Webber, for two, which makes it something special.

Sadly, caught somewhere between a psychothriller and outright slasher movie, the film has lost its true identity in trying to surprise the audience again and again.

The Radius-TWC picture, which Stamm scripted with David Birke, co-stars Rutina Wesley, Devon Graye, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Richard Burgi and Tom Bower.

13 Sins hits On Demand this Friday and in theaters April 18.

Check out the rather violent red band trailer below.

The story follows an indebted man who gets a mysterious phone call telling him he’s on a hidden camera game show while also offering him a fortune if he completes thirteen tasks. The man accepts the challenge but is soon over his head as each task is more horrifying than the last.
