Let’s cut to the chase, here’s a countdown of what’s worth plunking down some cash for this month at the movies.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4)

Only Lovers Left Alive ( April 11)

Driven by sensual photography, trance-like music, and droll humor, Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive is a meditation on art, science, memory, and the mysteries of everlasting love where the plot is told from a point of view of two fragile and sensitive vampires, Adam (Tom Hiddleston) and Eve (Tilda Swinton), who have been lovers for centuries.

Transcendence (April 18)

Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) is one of the leading researchers in the field of Artificial Intelligence. When he’s shot by anti-AI extremists and is prepared for death, his wife (Rebecca Hall) decides to upload his consciousness, turning him into an even larger threat dead than alive. Besides a well-crafted sci-fi film, hopefully we’ll see some big ideas and a performance we haven’t seen from Johnny Depp before, playing a man whose mind is uploaded to a computer.

Dom Hemingway (April 4)

Dom Hemingway (Jude Law) is a prominent safecracker recently released from prison after serving a twelve-year stint. Content to get back to his wild ways, a brush with death forces Dom to reconnect with the daughter (Emilia Clarke) he’s never taken time out for. The movie, according to Indiewire’s Kevin Jagernauth also delivers on the laughs with several “laugh-out-loud” and “impressively, wittily written” moments.

Locke (April 25)

Ivan Locke (Tom Hardy) is embarking on a new chapter in his life, but as he drives to a meeting, he makes a series of phone calls which have life-altering consequences.A major part of the pleasures of Locke is the way that Knight…parcels out little pieces of information to reveal why the title character is on his journey.”
