A Boba Fett Movie Reportedly in the Works with James Mangold

Standalone Anthology Film

According to THR, James Mangold will write and direct a standalone Boba Fett movie, folks. Simon Kinberg will collaborate with Mangold on the spinoff film as a co-writer and producer.

One of the franchise’s most popular villains had surprisingly little screen time in the original trilogy, despite being a beloved character among Star Wars fans.

There were reports all the way back in 2014 that the Fett movie might be in progress, with several names attached to it, including Chronicle and Fantastic Four helmer Josh Trank.

Details about the storyline are scarce so far, but it would provide much more backstory for the character, which was portrayed by Jeremy Bulloch in the original films. The film will reportedly follow in the footsteps of Rogue One and Solo as standalone Star Wars Stories, anthology movies from the galaxy far, far away.

Mangold directed and co-wrote Logan, the X-Men standalone movie which Kinberg produced. The last year’s standout superhero film went on to earn an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, so there’s a very good reason to believe that the Boba Fett spinoff will definitely be a step in the right direction.

Disney and Lucasfilm have not yet confirmed the report and there is no information on release dates, cast or when in the Star Wars timeline the flick will take place.
