ALADDIN Prequel GENIES in Development at Disney

Disney Live Action

Well, yet another live-action production from Disney is on the way as the studio is reportedly working on a prequel to its 1992 animated classic Aladdin.

The studio is developing a live-action comedy called Genies which will give the full backstory about how Aladdin’s blue-skinned Genie (famously voiced by Robin Williams) ended up enslaved in a lamp, despite his phenomenal cosmic powers.

The script is being written by creative duo Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Friday the 13th remake, Baywatch), according to the THR report. Tripp Vinson will produce through his Vinson Films. No talent is being slated for the Genies live-action just yet and there isn’t a start date on production or release date.

The Mouse House announced a long list of live-action remakes of its classic films, with The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, Winnie the Pooh, Mulan, Pinocchio, Tink and more, all set to get a makeover. Um, seems like Disney has turned into some kind of mining company.
