Alexandre Desplat to Score ROGUE ONE

Film Music Reporter has learned that the first Star Wars spin-off film Rogue One will also be the first not to include music by John Williams.

In an interview with the French podcast Radio Classique’s Culture Club, recent Academy Award-winning composer Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel) revealed that he would be re-teaming with Godzilla director Gareth Edwards to score Rogue One.

My comment: makes sense it wouldn’t be Williams. If they want him to score Rian Johnson‘s Episode VIII, he’ll be busy with that the same time Desplat is doing the upcoming standalone Star Wars film set for release on December 16, 2016.

Williams is already confirmed to be returning for this year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, although some people wished it had been J.J. Abrams‘ longtime composer Michael Giacchino (Star Trek).

Rogue One was scribed by Gary Whitta (Book of Eli) with a rewrite by Chris Weitz (Cinderella) and based on a story by John Knoll. Felicity Jones will have a starring role in the film and cinematographer Greig Fraser (Zero Dark Thirty) has been attached to the project.

I’m excited. Love Desplat’s softer stuff. Great move Disney, should be awesome.
