Amazon Releases First Trailer for ‘Chi-Raq’ Directed by Spike Lee

Spike Lee’s Political Satire

“This is an emergency.” Amazon Studios and Roadside Attractions have officially released the first trailer for Spike Lee’s political satire Chi-Raq, the first-ever Amazon Original Movie.

“Chiraq” is a nickname given to America’s third largest city because of its violent crime – more Americans were killed in the Illinois city in 2012 than were killed in Iraq war in the same year.

The already-controversial film, described as a modern adaptation of the ancient Greek play “Lysistrata” by Aristophanes, features a top-notch roster of actors such as Nick Cannon, Samuel L. Jackson, Wesley Snipes, John Cusack, Jennifer Hudson and comedian Dave Chappelle.

Chi-Raq opens in limited release on December 4, followed by its debut on Amazon Prime Instant Video. Peep the trailer below.

First good Spike Lee joint in a decade plus. Can it be an awards season player? I dunno, but Spike definitely knows moviemaking. I hope it’s as good as it could be.

Spike Lee’s Political Satire

Chi-Raq is a modern day adaptation of the ancient Greek play “Lysistrata” by Aristophanes. After the murder of a Child by a stray bullet, a group of women led by Lysistrata organize against the on-going violence in Chicago’s Southside creating a movement that challenges the nature of race, sex and violence in America and around the world.
