Amy Schumer to Star in Live-Action ‘Barbie’ Movie
Trainwreck star Amy Schumer is said to be in early talks to star in Sony’s live-action Barbie movie as the infamous Mattel doll.
The upcoming toy movie is reportedly a comedy-fantasy in the vein of Splash, Enchanted and Big, with Schumer playing a misfit who gets kicked out of Barbieland to the real world where her being/looking different turns into an asset.
The summer 2018 tentpole has a script by Hilary Winston (The Lego Ninjago Movie) which Schumer and her sister Kim Caramele will rewrite, “meaning there will surely be a little something for the over-elementary-school-age crowd.” Sony hired various scribes to pen separate screenplays since producers Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald initiated the original deal with Mattel in 2014, but the studio and producer Amy Pascal apparently landed on Winston’s idea.
If girls get to be reassured that it’s okay to grow up and look like Amy Schumer, boys need to know it’s okay to look like Jonah Hill. Some people over at Internet assume he’d be a perfect fit for Ken and I totally agree with this, lol. A female director is currently being sought. The other example I can think of similar to this approach is the Paul Feig‘s Ghostbusters reboot, re-imagined for an all-female cast. Also Sony. How did that do again? Oh well, whatever. That’s why you gotta love liberal Hollywood.
In related news Sony Pictures and Mattel are currently developing a big-screen adaptation of Masters of the Universe with McG in talks to direct live-action movie based on another hyper popular toyline. We’re staying sharp, and waiting for more updates on these projects.
