Annabelle Wallis to Join Tom Cruise in ‘The Mummy’ Reboot

Annabelle Wallis & Tom Cruise

The Peaky Blinders and Annabelle actress Annabelle Wallis is set to play the female lead in Universal’s The Mummy reboot of the 1932 classic, opposite Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella.

Wallis would play an archaeologist in the film, while Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service) is on board to play the title monster. Cruise is playing “a special forces soldier (or former soldier)” in the reboot, which is set in present day.

Alex Kurtzman (People Like Us) is directing from a script by Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange). The untitled Mummy reboot is set to bow on June 9, 2017.

When I heard that there was going to be another Mummy movie, I was excited but, after hearing that Kurtzman and Spaihts are involved, it kinda lowers my interest in the project. Then I heard T. Cruise was going to be in this and just became disappointed – I feel like if I’ve seen one movie of his I’ve seen them all. Casting A. Wallis… Sure, if she’s playing a former archaeology student of his.

Update: Jake Johnson (Jurassic World scene-stealer) is reportedly also in talks to join Universal Pictures’ The Mummy. He’ll play a military character role penned specifically for him.
