ANT-MAN Cast Revealed at Comic-Con

Here’s another story that should have been among the fresh Comic-Con news: Marvel Studios has officially announced the roles of Evangeline Lilly and Corey Stoll in Ant-Man.

Lilly was confirmed as Hope Van Dyne, daughter of Hank Pym, and a lead in the film.

Stoll’s villain for the film was also unveiled: it’s Darren Cross, Yellowjacket, who was Pym’s mentee until their relationship soured.

Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige commented on Lilly:

“Corey brings depth to every role he plays. As a major part of the Ant-Man ensemble, we all wanted an actor who could be both cunning and sympathetic, and help create a character as dynamic as Marvel’s best antagonists.”

And here’s what Feige said about Stoll:

“Corey brings depth to every role he plays. As a major part of the Ant-Man ensemble, we all wanted an actor who could be both cunning and sympathetic, and help create a character as dynamic as Marvel’s best antagonists.”

Lilly and Stoll join the previously announced Paul Rudd as Scott Lang and Michael Douglas  as Hank Pym. The film also stars Michael Pena and David Dastmalchian, though unofficially.

Now those are some nice additions. I loved Evangeline Lilly in Lost and you probably know Stoll from House of Cards or that terrible hairpiece on The Strain.

Filming on the “size-changing super hero’s first cinematic adventure” begins on August 18th.

Peyton Reed-directed Ant-Man is currently still scheduled to be released on July 17, 2015.

We also got some quick descriptions of the presented footage, thanks to FirstShowing.net.  A brief clip showed Dr. Pym’s laboratory in the form of:

” a sweeping shot through Hank’s lab with voiceover from Rudd and Douglas in character, talking about some kind of small heist job, and also a mostly complete special effects sequence showing tiny Scott Lang (Rudd) as Ant-Man trying to escape the aforementioned job. He calls upon a flying ant for help, with Douglas talking in his ear and trying to help him, but he has trouble wrangling it, forcing him to just escape by jumping off the ledge (a table), until he’s caught by the ant in question and flies through an air vent.

Before the action sequence unfolds Lang doesn’t really seem to be on board with whatever the Pym wants to pull off, and it hints at the elder’s desire to have the junior use the Ant-Man suit and powers for good and also his distaste for heroes in the spotlight, because Lang says, “I’m not superhero.” And Pym fires back, “You’re not an egomaniac. Superheroes, what a goddamn joke.” Sounds like there’s some sour grapes there, maybe from the past?”
