ANT-MAN Director Shortlist Update

UPDATE: Marvel has just announced that they have hired Peyton Reed to direct Ant-Man.

Sorry, I’ve been kind of quiet the past few days, but the hunt for a new Ant-Man director doesn’t stop with the number of names mentioned as possible replacements for Edgar Wright.

Peyton Reed (Yes Man) and David Wain (Role Models) are reportedly the new frontrunners for the high-profile director’s chair, although Nicholas Stoller (Neighbors) and Michael Dowse (Goon) may still be in play as well, but it’s not clear if one of them will accept the job as both are weighing Ant-Man against a few other options.

Dodgeball‘s Rawson Thurber has passed on the film as well as Adam McKay who previously pulled out of negotiations to step in for Wright.

Zombieland‘s Ruben Fleischer is also said to be in contention but has withdrawn his name from the hunt too.

The news about Reed as Marvel’s top choice first came from The Wrap, and then THR added Wain to the mix with a case strengthened by his previous work with star Paul Rudd.

It looks like Marvel does not want its movies to be defined by their directors but they just really need a helmer since they’re still determined to hit that July 17, 2015 release date.

In related news, Michael Douglas, who is playing Henry Pym in the flick, opened up about the situation calling it ‘disappointing’:

“I was very disappointed. I am a big fan of [Edgar’s]. It’s a very disappointing situation. Happened very late in the game. I don’t think anybody’s quite recovered. My heart goes out to Edgar – he’s been involved with the project for a long time.”

Ant-Man follows a biochemist Dr. Hank Pym using his latest discovery, a group of subatomic particles, to create a size-altering formula. Though his first self-test goes awry, he develops an instrument that helps him communicate with and control insects.
