BATMAN Solo Film Rumored for 2019

Hot on the heels of the rumor that Warner Bros.’ upcoming DC slate will also see the release of Shazam (July 2016), Sandman (Christmas 2016), Wonder Woman (July 2017), and a Flash/Green Lantern team-up movie (Christmas 2017), comes another rumor that WB is eyeing 2019 for a solo Batman film starring Ben Affleck.

The film reportedly has the working title The Batman and would hit theaters one year after the release of the rumored Man of Steel 2 (May 2018).

I guess your heart is aflutter with shock and surprise. I must admit I’m not too excited to be riding this whole older batman bandwagon as Affleck will be 47 by then.

However, a 2019 release date would fit in well with DC’s rumored movie slate.

Let’s summarize Affleck’s upcoming slate: he will make his debut as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, opening in theaters May 6, 2016. The production on Justice League will likely to start early next year, after Dawn of Justice has wrapped in late 2014. Once the Avengers-style ensemble is in the can, Affleck will write, direct, and star in his long-gestating drama, Live By Night in the summer of 2015 (already pushed it back to facilitate his superhero performances). He would then be able to focus on The Batman and its possible he could direct it too.

All the pieces fit together, but you’d better take all I tell you with a grain of salt and, considering this project is five years out, I wouldn’t expect official confirmation or denial from the studio any time soon.
