BATMAN V SUPERMAN Release Date Moves to March 25, 2016

It appears that Marvel Studios seem to have come away the victor, having staked out the May 6, 2016 weekend for their third Captain America film.

Warner Bros. have moved the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice up more than two months to March 25, 2016 to avoid stout competition with Marvel’s Captain America 3. Originally the Man of Steel follow-up was set for July 17, 2015, but then pushed back to May 6, 2016.

Marvel’s recent success with Guardians of the Galaxy proves that releasing a film during the same weekend as them could literally kill a film’s potential box office.

In addition, Batman v Superman, starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill will be released in 3D as part of an aggressive slate released by Warner Bros. today that includes 9 untitled DC films between now and June of 2020.

Untitled DC Film – August 5, 2016

Untitled DC Film – June 23, 2017

Untitled DC Film – November 17, 2017

Untitled DC Film – March 23, 2018

Untitled DC Film – July 27, 2018

Untitled DC Film – April 5, 2019

Untitled DC Film – June 14, 2019

Untitled DC Film – April 3, 2020

Untitled DC Film – June 19, 2020

And there’s also 2 “event films,” not necessarily DC Comics related:

Untitled WB Event Film – November 16, 2018

Untitled WB Event Film – November 20, 2020

The untitled films are sure to include Justice League film, while other likely candidates include Shazam, Sandman, Aquaman and a team-up The Flash/Green Lantern stand-alones and a Wonder Woman spinoff.

Wow, very ambitious!
