Baz Luhrmann in Talks to Direct KUNG FU

The Great Gatsby director Baz Luhrmann  is reportedly in talks to direct a big screen reboot of classic David Carradine Western series Kung Fu which revolved around a Shaolin monk who came to the American West in search of his half-brother.

Cory Goodman (Priest) and XXX scribe Rich Wilkes have been originally hired to write the script. Should Luhrmann sign on to direct, he’s expected to do a rewrite as the plan was to bring the story into modern times and to hire a director before the script is finished.

The new Kung Fu feature film is said to reverse things and send the lead character to China in search of his dad, at one point ending up in a prison where he must fight to survive.

Well-known for his lavish production values and highly stylized filmmaking, Luhrmann would no doubt bring his own signature sensibility to the martial arts Western.
