BEAUTY and Condon

The director of a Twilight movie is directing Beauty and the Beast, this could be a surprise hit.

On the heels of the huge worldwide success of Maleficent (grossed more than $170 million) Disney is eyeing similar success with a live-action remake of yet another fairy tale.

The House of Mouse has now tapped Bill Condon, the director of Dreamgirls and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn to direct the live-action reboot of Beauty and the Beast, based on the 1991 classic cartoon.

Condon is set to work from a screenplay by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Hercules, The Lion King 1½) and it’s a fair bet that the plot details are exactly what you would expect them to be.

Condon knows how to handle the musical aspect of the film as well as a great emotional film with a lot of great tunes (Dreamgirls, Chicago). The hiring of Condon might suggest Disney is thinking of going that route.

No word yet on who is rumored to play Belle or the Beast,  neither we have news on another take on the same story that’s in development at Warner Bros with Guillermo del Toro involved as a director and Emma Watson attached to play the titular character.

It will be really boring to watch two Beauty and the Beast movies in a short period of time.
