Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Adds Ian McKellen as Cogsworth

Beauty And The Beast

The Lord of the Rings and X-Men star Ian McKellen has joined the cast of Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast in the role of Cogsworth, the good-natured majorodomo of Beast’s castle.

Eight-time Oscar-winner joins a cast that already includes Emma Watson as Belle, Kevin Kline as Belle’s father, Maurice, Dan Stevens as Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as Le Fou and Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts.

Bill Condon will direct from a script by Evan Spiliotopoulos, with Stephen Chbosky providing a rewrite. Production on the new live-action musical version of the classic tale is slated to begin in a matter of weeks, with Disney already setting a March 17, 2017 release date.

It seems like such a small role for such an excellent actor, but this film is developing one hell of a cast. Who do you think will portray a good Lumiere in the movie? Patric Stewart is certainly an interesting choice for the job.
