Benedict Cumberbatch & Tom Hardy for DOCTOR STRANGE

As we wait for Ant-Man director like Vladimir and Estragon waited for Godot, Marvel is starting to assemble casting wish list for its long-anticipated Doctor Strange big-screen adaptation.

One of Kevin Feige‘s personal top priorities recently secured its director in Scott Derrickson (Sinister) and we heard that Jared Leto was rumored to be circling the Sorcerer Supreme role.

Deadline is now reporting that Marvel has Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek into Darkness) and Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises), two big-name actors on their early wishlist to star as Doctor Strange.

I can’t complain about that. Both British actors have a considerable resume  that would make them ideal candidates to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the challenge will be whether or not either of them have time in their jam-packed schedules.

Hardy’s upcoming projects include Michael R. Roskam’s crime-thriller The Drop, Daniel Espinosa’s Child 44, plus George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road. He’s also rumored to star opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant and is in pre-production on Brian Helgeland’s thriller Legend. Cumberbatch, meanwhile, next appears in the Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game, and voices roles in The Penguins of Madagascar, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, and is next expected to move on to Gary Oldman’s Flying Horse, among others.

I’m pretty sure this won’t be the last piece of casting speculation you’ll see about the powerful sorcerer. Anyway, Marvel could be readying some strange surprises for Comic-Con next month, so stay tuned.
