Burt Reynolds as a Washed-Up Celebrity in ‘The Last Movie Star’

Adam Rifkin’s Comedy

A24 has debuted a brand new trailer for The Last Movie Star, which has been retitled by U.S. distributor after playing initial festival dates as Dog Years.

In the film, the Boogie Nights actor Burt Reynolds portrays an aging movie star who no longer has the same fame he once had.

Written and directed by Adam Rifkin, and co-starring Ariel Winter, Clark Duke, Ellar Coltrane, Nikki Blonsky, Kathleen Nolan, as well as Chevy Chase, The Last Movie Star will premiere on DIRECTV starting Feb. 22 and will hit select theaters in New York and Los Angeles on March 30.

Reynolds plays Vic Edwards, an aging celebrity (the “No. 1 box-office star for five — no, six — years in a row”) who accepts an invitation to attend a film festival honoring his long career, only to show up and discover the event is barely even bush league. The festival takes place, for example, at a bar barely big enough to fit a red carpet.
