Charlie Hunnam to Play Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur

Deadline reports that Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam has been lined up to star as Arthur Pendragon, more commonly known as King Arthur in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming medieval epic, which is now officially titled Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur.

In addition, Variety is reporting that Godzilla star Elizabeth Olsen is also in negotiations for the female lead (presumably the fabled British monarch’s wife, Guinevere).

The Warner Bros. movie also has Hunnam’s Pacific Rim co-star Idris Elba in a supporting role as a “Merlin-eseque character who trains and mentors Arthur.”

Joby Harold (2007′s Awake) penned the current version of the script for what is being seen to be the first in a six-film series. Akiva Goldsman, Tory Tunnell and Lionel Wigram are producing.

Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur was given a July 22, 2016 release date.

Hunnam is definitely not the first person I would think of for King Arthur. He should have been Aquaman. And I’m already tired of Olsen. How about Emma Watson for female lead?

All jokes aside, another King Arthur movie simply doesn’t get me excited in the least. For my money, Monty Python is the best for portraying this theme.
