Chris Hemsworth Eyed for Shane Black’s Long-Gestating DOC SAVAGE

Hot on the heels of a recent report that Iron Man 3 director Shane Black has become attached to co-write and direct a Predator reboot for Fox, also dropped a tidbit about Doc Savage that Black met with Chris Hemsworth for the lead in his long-gestating  film.

Black has been attached to write and direct the Doc Savage movie since 2009 . He co-wrote a draft for the period piece with Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry, but the adaptation of the 1930s pulp hero has run up against budget problems.  Sony, reportedly, still does consider Savage one of its priorities.

A hero of pulp novels and comics has been described as “a mix of Sherlock Holmes’ deductive abilities, Tarzan’s outstanding physical abilities, Craig Kennedy’s scientific education, and Abraham Lincoln’s goodness who uses his skills and powers to punish evil wherever in the world he finds it.”

Personally, I think Hemsworth is a great choice to play the Man of Bronze who has to be a “perfect physical specimen,” a man who exudes “symmetry and perfection,” which pretty much describes the 6’3 Australian actor.

Black was asked by an IGN reporter last September if he would consider Thor star to play Doc Savage, to which he replied, “That’s not bad. What is he doing?

Check it out.

Pretty good, no word on Black for awhile and then two developments back to back, not to mention that he’s pulling together the cast for his noir film The Nice Guys, which has Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe circling to star.

I need Doc Savage movie in my life and if it doesn’t work out then Black could go to his Nice Guys star Gosling. But I’m afraid this will go the way in reception just like The Phantom or John Carter.
