Chris Hemsworth Joins the Cast of Paul Feig’s GHOSTBUSTERS

Ghostbusters Reboot

The gender-switching is continuing to grow in Paul Feig-directed Ghostbusters. Chris Hemsworth, Marvel Studios’ Thor, takes over from the role played in the original 1984 Ghostbusters and its 1989 sequel Ghostbusters 2.

Hemsworth will be doing the dirty work for the new ghostbusting quartet already composed of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. Umm, because feminism.

The hammer-wielding Hemsworth also has a comedic cameo in the upcoming Vacation reboot, scheduled for release on July 29, so the gender-swap version of the Janine Melnitz role will be the second chance to show off his comedic chops. Hopefully it isn’t the same joke that Vacation appears to be going with.

No word yet on story, but Ghostbusters filming is expected to begin this year for a July 22, 2016 release. Here’s Feig’s announcement:

“I collect Thors, molds, and fungus.”
