Chris Rock Confirmed to Host Oscars

88th Academy Awards

Following yesterday’s report that Chris Rock was in talks to host the 88th Academy Awards, the Academy has officially confirmed Rock as host of the 2016 Oscars.

Well this will be the second time that Rock hosts the Oscars, as he first hosted the Academy Awards back in 2005 when Million Dollar Baby won. Rock was a great host. His biggest problem is that he never made an iconic role. Rock’s iconic role is basically just himself.

“I’m so glad to be hosting the Oscars,” said Rock. “It’s great to be back.”

I’m not entirely sure, but it seems like there will be no Obama jokes and lots of Republican jokes again.

Oh, okay, Rock returns as a successful filmmaker this time, having made the films I Think I Love My Wife and Top Five since last hosting. Will he actually be funny this time? I think he will bring some good vibes to the award show. The harsh reality is that you can’t please everyone.

In the decade since Rock hosted, Ellen DeGeneres MCed the ceremony twice in 2007 and 2014, as did Jon Stewart in 2006 and 2008. Hugh Jackman (2009), Billy Crystal (2012), Seth MacFarlane (2013), and the duos of Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin (2010) and James Franco and Anne Hathaway (2011) also hosted Hollywood’s biggest event of the year (via Variety).

The 2016 Oscars will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on February 28th, 2016 and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
