First Trailer for CLOUDS OF SILS MARIA

The latest film from Olivier Assayas, Clouds of Sils Maria has yet to screen in the Cannes 2014 Competition. The first trailer has finally arrived and it’s one to watch.

Assayas’ first film about making films since Irma Vep (1996) stars Kristen Stewart, Juliette Binoche, Chloe Grace Moretz and Johnny Flynn.

French director described the film as

the confrontation between the past and present of a landscape that appeared to me as an ideal setting for a comedy – or drama, depending on the perspective one chooses – of an actress diving into the abyss of time, either out of professional or moral obligation, rather than desire. When we stare into this void, it does not reflect much aside from our own image, frozen in the absolute present. This snapshot is at the heart of Sils Maria.

Yep, that’s right, Stewart again shows her ass.

At the peak of her international career, Maria Enders (Juliette Binoche) is asked to perform in a revival of the play that made her famous twenty years ago. But back then she played the role of Sigrid, an alluring young girl who disarms and eventually drives her boss Helena to suicide. Now she is being asked to step into the other role, that of the older Helena.

She departs with her assistant (Kristen Stewart) to rehearse in Sils Maria; a remote region of the Alps. A young Hollywood starlet with a penchant for scandal (Chloë Grace Moretz) is to take on the role of Sigrid, and Maria finds herself on the other side of the mirror, face to face with an ambiguously charming woman who is, in essence, an unsettling reflection of herself.
