David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike in ‘A United Kingdom’ Trailer

Amma Asante's Historical Drama

Fox and Pathe have released the official UK trailer for Amma Asante‘s latest film called A United Kingdom, the 1940s-set drama starring David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike.

This true story where race is the focus follows Seretse Khama (Oyelowo), heir to the throne of Botswana, who causes an international stir when he choose to marry Ruth Williams (Pike), a white woman from London.

Also starring Tom Felton, Laura Carmichael, Jack Davenport, Charlotte Hope, and Jessica Oyelowo, the film will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and opens in the UK on November 25th. It does not yet have a U.S. release date.

The film tells the incredible true story of Seretse Khama, King of Bechuanaland (modern Botswana), and Ruth Williams, the London office worker he married in 1948 in the face of fierce opposition from their families and the British and South African governments. Seretse and Ruth defied family, apartheid and empire – their love triumphed over every obstacle flung in their path and in so doing they transformed their nation and inspired the world.
