As July 11th looms closer, more goodies have surfaced from Matt Reeve’s follow up Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

One of major summer releases at Fox looks surprisingly prescient and scary – not because the rogue monkeys ruling the world, but the horrible collapse of society.

The short featurette focuses on the Simian Flu from the end of 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes (that nearly wipes out humanity’s existence), while new TV spot gives a sense of the inter-species tensions in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Reeves explained back in April:

“The small group of humans are struggling to come back from devastation, and the apes are fighting for survival. The big question is, can they co-exist. We all know it doesn’t become Planet of Humans and Apes. It becomes Planet of the Apes. But this is that one moment of time where there is hope for humans.”

Reeves is on board to continue the series with a third Planet of the Apes movie set for release in July 2016.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes stars Jason Clarke, Andy Serkis, Keri Russell, Gary Oldman, Judy Greer, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Tobey Kebbell, Kirk Acevedo, and Enrique Murciano.
