Deleted ‘Force Awakens’ Scene Shows Chewie Ripping Plutt’s Arm Off
Uploaded on Saturday, the clip that is cut from a version of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, shows Chewbacca ripping off the arm of Simon Pegg’s Unkar Plutt character after the Jakku junk dealer threatens Rey in Maz Kanata’s bar.
In the final cut of the 2015’s ultra-blockbuster, the scene never takes place, but a portion of the entire interaction was actually included in the The Force Awakens‘ 3D Collector’s Edition and Blu-Ray that is available now. Let’s wait and see if Chewie gets up to more such violent misbehavior in Star Wars: Episode VIII, the next installment in the trilogy that is scheduled for release December 15, 2017.
Although it’s not overly gruesome, it is no surprise Disney hit the brakes on that. Check out an extended version of the clip in the video below.
The gag (for those of you non-hardcore Star Wars nerds) dates back to 1977’s A New Hope, when Han Solo tells C-3PO to always let a Wookiee win — at games and just life in general — because they are known to rip people’s arms out of their sockets when they lose. The arm scene also is a call back to the Mos Eisley Cantina scene in New Hope when Ponda Baba gets his arm sliced off by Obi-Wan Kenobi.
