Director Ed Zwick Attached to JACK REACHER Sequel

Tom Cruise Robert Duvall

The Last Samurai director Ed Zwick is reportedly in talks to direct the follow-up to the Tom Cruise thriller Jack Reacher.

Zwick will also rewrite with frequent collaborator Marshall Herskovitz the first draft of the script by Richard Wenk (The Equalizer), based on the 18th Reacher novel Never Go Back. According to Deadline:

In it, Reacher heads back to his old military base in Virginia to take a woman to dinner who is now the commanding officer. By the time he gets there, she has been arrested, and Reacher finds himself being charged with pummeling one guy and fathering a child with a woman. He can’t remember either transgression but gets to the bottom of it with cunning and sometimes brute force.”

Hopefully the interactions between Reacher and his alleged daughter are just as fun onscreen.

The original 2012 film’s director Christopher McQuarrie, who re-teamed with Cruise on this Summer’s Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation, will return only as an executive producer on this sequel alongside Cruise and Don Granger. Cruise is already set to return as the titular ass-kicker. I also hope they find a way to bring Robert Duvall back as he had great chemistry with Cruise.
