Disney is Now Developing Live-Action PINOCCHIO Reboot

Transition From Animation to Live-Action

Seriously, wtf. Yet another classic Disney film will make the transition from animation to live-action. Deadline reports that Peter Hedges (What’s Eating Gilbert Grape) will pen the Pinocchio “inspired” movie.

On the heels of the massive box office success of Alice in Wonderland, Disney was moving full-speed-ahead on live-action adaptations: Maleficent was a massive hit, Cinderella has grossed more than $400 million internationally to date, The Jungle Book is in production, Beauty and the Beast is getting ready, and several others like Dumbo, Mulan and Winnie the Pooh are are all in the works.

A live-action film inspired by Pinocchio won’t be a direct adaptation of the classic 1940 film, but likely closer to the original 1883 novel The Adventures Of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. That’s a darker version of the tale of woodcarver who crafts a son who then comes to life. the The film will reportedly follow Maleficent and show the traditional story in a new light.

Another dark version of the character, a surreal stop-motion version with Guillremo del Toro attached was delayed but might be back in the works according to same source.

Remember that just because all of these are in development, doesn’t mean all of them get made.
