‘Doctor Strange’ Casts Wong, Actor, as Sidekick Wong

as Kublai Khan In Netflix’s "Marco Polo".

Doctor Strange has cast Benedict Wong (The Martian) as Wong, the character, the good doctor’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) trusty sidekick (via THR).

And so now we have two Wongs and two Benedicts at once. Nevermind, happy about this casting.

In the film, the character is a Chinese monk, martial artist, and healer who loyally served the Sorcerer Supreme after the Ancient One sent him to the United States to his disciple.

Finally! Asian actor playing an Asian character. That is a very strong message. I think this is a reflection of the boycott issue taking place right now.

Wong was also great as Kublai Khan in Netflix’s “Marco Polo”. He joins a cast that also includes Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, Tilda Swinton as a whitewashed Ancient One, Michael Stuhlbarg as Nicodemus West, Rachel McAdams as the female lead, rumored to be Night Nurse and, in undisclosed roles, Amy Landecker and Scott Adkins.

Doctor Strange is scripted by Jon Spaihts and directed by Scott Derrickson and focuses on the story of renowned neurosurgeon Stephen Strange (Cumberbatch) who uncovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions after a near fatal car accident.
