Donald Glover Is Lando Calrissian in Young ‘Han Solo’ Movie
Lucasfilm announced officially that Donald Glover will be playing the younger version of Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Han Solo Star Wars Story film, due out May 25, 2018.
The role was originally played by Billy Dee Williams in the two follow-up films The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Calrissian and Han Solo— so famously portrayed by Harrison Ford — are bros from long long ago and far far away.
Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller had previously set Alden Ehrenreich to play young Solo in the still-untitled Han Solo Star Wars spinoff, which “depicts Lando in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld — years before the events involving Han, Leia, and Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back and his rise to Rebel hero in Return of the Jedi,” Lucasfilm added in the press release.
Glover is known for his roles in movies such as Magic Mike XXL and The Martian, and will next be seen on the big screen in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.
This is genuinely exciting casting news and I don’t really have a problem with these actors, but I still cannot picture other actors in these iconic roles.
