Drew Goddard Rumored to Write and Direct SPIDER-MAN Reboot

Untitled Spider-Man

Well, looks like Sony Pictures has put the new Spider-Man reboot on a faster track as Drew Goddard, who had previously been tapped to helm Spider-Man spinoff film, Sinister Six is expected to meet with studio execs for the new film which, aping the titles of the comics, is tentatively titled The Spectacular Spider-Man.

Actually, the filmmaker can bridge the world of Sony and Marvel Studios with the new Spider-Man film that will start a three part series and will not be tied to the Andrew Garfield-starring The Amazing Spider-Man. Marvel’s Kevin Feige will produce the film along with Amy Pascal at Sony.

The web-slinging superhero, which Sony still owns, will be popping up for the first time in MCU with Captain America: Civil War, though the studio has yet to confirm such an appearance. And MCU characters might also pop up in the Spider-Man movies.

Goddard, Joss Whedon‘s long time collaborator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel fame was a kind of an obvious choice after he dumped directing and show running Marvel’s “Daredevil” Netflix series. I’m excited to see what the come up with. The studio will likely set the story in high school.

The Spectacular Spider-Man (or whatever the Untitled Spider-Man film will be called) is set for release on July 28, 2017. They’re looking for a lead actor now, although Reddit reports say Dylan O’Brien (The Maze Runner) has been cast as a new Spidey.
