Drew Goddard to Direct SINISTER SIX

Late last year Sony Pictures announced that Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Ed Solomon (Now You See Me), and Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods), along with director Marc Webb and producer Avi Arad have formed a “brain trust” that will “expand the universe for the brand” and “develop a continuous tone and thread” that will carry through the remaining Amazing Spider-Man installments and any spinoffs including two films titled Venom and The Sinister Six that will focus on foes from The Amazing Spider-Man.

While Kurtzman, Orci, and Solomon were attached to write Venom, Goddard was hired to pen The Sinister Six, and now Heat Vision has learned that he will also direct the comic book spin-off that will unite six of Spider-Man’s villains for one film. The original line-up featured Doctor Octopus, Electro, Sandman, Mysterio, Vulture, and Kraven the Hunter, respectively. The Stan Lee/Steve Ditko created team of Spidey foes have been around since the mid sixties.

Goddard’s involvement is interesting given that he’s also meant to write and act as showrunner for Marvel’s Daredevil series on Netflix. Netflix expects to begin airing the Marvel projects in 2015 and for that reason moviegoers should expect the Sinister Six to get rolling sometime later.

Meanwhile, Kurtzman, Orci and Pinkner are writing the script for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which will go into production next fall for release on June 10, 2016. The fourth Spider-Man film has already been dated for May 4, 2018, so it’s possible that The Sinister Six could see a release in 2017 if Venom (with Kurtzman attached to direct) doesn’t take that slot instead.
