Dwayne Johnson to Star in RAMPAGE Video Game Adaptation

Deadline first broke the news that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, aka “Franchise Viagra” has been tapped to star in a big screen adaptation of Midway’s 1986 arcade game, Rampage.

The original game featured three giant monsters, a gorilla, a lizard and a werewolf, who cause destruction and chaos in major cities around North America, while trying to fend off military forces.

Basically generic monster mayhem mash-up movie featuring The Rock has a script by Ryan Engle (Non-Stop), and is now looking for a director. The film will reportedly shoot after Johnson wraps up Fast & Furious 8, which is set for a release on April 14, 2017.

So New Line’s fairly straightforward answer to Godzilla and Pacific Rim is expected to begin in summer 2016. Anything to keep Johnson away from Big Trouble in Little China remake. He’s currently shooting Central Intelligence, a New Line action-comedy with Kevin Hart and Amy Ryan, which is set to hit theaters on June 17th, 2016.
