Eli Roth to Helm Giant Shark Movie MEG

A Novel Of Deep Terror

Is Meg the giant shark big screen adaptation finally back on? “Soon-to-be-a-major-motion-picture,” the monster movie Meg may be resurfacing once again.

The project based on a 1997 book written by Steve Alten has been in development for a long, long time, and Variety broke the news that Warner Bros. is currently in talks with Eli Roth to helm what it hopes could be a new franchise.

Jurassic World‘s record-smashing opening weekend obviously had to have helped a story about a 60 foot long great white shark ancestor (dubbed “Jurassic Shark!”) to gain steam. Expect to see a lot of similar in topic movies flood theaters because Hollywood is a town of copycats.

The script for the film has been adapted by Dean Georgaris (Paycheck) and will be produced by Belle Avery and Colin Wilson, while Gerald Molen and Randy Greenberg will serve as executive producers.

Roth has Keanu Reeves-fronted home invasion thriller Knock Knock and the cannibal movie The Green Inferno opening later this year, and he’ll also host a talk show “Shark After Dark” next month during Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week.”

Carcharodon megalodon. The apex predator of all time. The most fearsome creature that ever lived. A 70-foot, 60,000 pound Great White Shark. Hundreds of 7-inch serrated teeth filled jaws that could swallow an elephant whole. It could sense its prey miles away, inhaling its scent as it registered the beat of its fluttering heart, and if you ever came close enough to see the monster…it was already too late. For Navy deep-sea submersible pilot Jonas Taylor, it nearly was too late. Years ago, on a top-secret dive seven miles down into the Mariana Trench, Jonas came face to face with an ancient monster everyone believed extinct. Having barely escaped with his life, Jonas must prove to the world that Meg still exists. When an opportunity to return to the trench presents itself, he takes it, intent on returning topside with a 7-inch tooth! But mans presence in this unexplored domain releases one of the sharks from its purgatory, and now Jonas is the only one who can stop it.
