Emily Blunt in Talks to Headline Disney’s ‘Mary Poppins’ Sequel
It seems we’re going to have a new costume for the magical nanny at Disneyland. The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news that Emily Blunt is in talks for Disney’s sequel to Mary Poppins, the film, which will be set 20 years after the original 1964 film that starred Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. Supercalifragilisticexpialisequel!
The untitled Mary Poppins sequel will borrow elements from the original book series by P.L. Travers, and is set to be directed by Rob Marshall, with John DeLuca and Marc Platt producing. Blunt, Marshall, DeLuca, and Platt all worked together on Into the Woods.
David Magee (Life of Pi) penned the script, while Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray) are writing original songs for the feature.
Blunt recently starred in Sicario and is currently filming The Girl on the Train. The actress is also pregnant with her second child, so the deal is not yet set in stone. However, I approve of this casting choice. Finally we get to see Ms. Poppins’ bloody revenge.
