Emma Stone and Tom Ford Win Big at Venice Film Festival

The 73rd Venice International Film Festival came to a close on Saturday night with their annual awards ceremony.

Lav Diaz‘s Filipino drama The Woman Who Left took home the Golden Lion, while Tom Ford’s noir Nocturnal Animals stole the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize, with Emma Stone also landing the Coppa Volpi award for Best Actress for her turn in Damien Chazelle‘s La La Land.

Ford snapped up the Grand Jury Prize for his second feature-length film, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams, while Stone took Best Actress for her role opposite Ryan Gosling in the upcoming musical fantasy film set in Los Angeles.

Elsewhere, Noah Oppenheim won Best Screenplay for the Natalie Portman Jacqueline Onassis biopic Jackie, and Ana Lily Amirpour’s cannibal thriller The Bad Batch won the Special Jury Prize.

Venice International Film Festival

The best director award was split this year in a tie between Andre Konchalovsky for his holocaust drama Paradise and Amat Escalante for his sci-fi film Untamed.
