Emma Watson to Lead Disney’s Live-Action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Plays Lead Character Belle

The Wrap first broke the news that the Harry Potter franchise actress Emma Watson is officially set to play the lead character Belle in Bill Condon‘s upcoming live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast for Disney Pictures and Mandeville Films.

The former Hogwarts student also shared the news on her Facebook page:

“It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing ‘Something There.’ My six year old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons.”

The script was penned by Evan Spiliotopoulos and rewritten by Steve Chbosky, who directed Watson in his The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I think Emma was phenomenal in Perks. Hope she can sing. I wonder who will play Gaston? Henry Cavill would be amazing. And maybe Rupert Grint as The Beast…Production is set to begin later this year.

Whatever happened to the Guillermo del Toro‘s Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson? Seems he was just too busy to take care of this one. Whatever the reason, he dropped out last summer. Del Toro and Watson, could you imagine…
