The Walking Dead actor Steven Yeun and Supernatural actress Felicia Day are set to star in Chew, an animated feature film adaptation of the Eisner Award winning Image comic series.

Yeun will voice the homonymic detective Tony Chu with Day providing the voice of a world-class food critic and Chu’s love interest, Amelia Mintz.

Jeff Krelitz, who helmed the animated Torchwood: Web of Lies and Peter Panzerfaust projects, is set to direct, from a script by Chew co-creator John Layman.

Voiceover work for Chew reportedly started last week.

The upcoming animated film is likely to skip a theatrical release and go straight to home video.

The story focuses on a detective who is a “cibopath,” a person who gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats, and is set in a world where bird meats are illegal after bird flu killed millions of Americans.

The book debuted at Image in 2009 and won Best New Series at the Eisner Awards in 2010.
