Feng Xiaogang Wins Best Director at Golden Horse Film Awards

Golden Horse Awards

China’s Feng Xiaogang won Best Director for his social satire I Am Not Madame Bovary at the 53rd Golden Horse Awards in Taipei on Saturday.

Feng’s latest film stars Fan Bingbing as a peasant who sues her swindler ex-husband. However, Ma Sichun and Zhou Dongyu won the best actress award for their performances as friends who fall for the same man in the romantic drama Soul Mate.

Zhang Dalei‘s The Summer is Gone won the coveted best picture award, with 10-year-old Kong Weiyi receiving the best new performer award for his role in this black-and-white drama about a boy’s last summer vacation before he enters junior high school.

China’s Fan Wei won best actor for his performance in Mr. No Problem as the manager of a money-losing farm in Chongqing in the 1940s.

Only one major award went to an entry from Hong Kong, with helmer Wong Chun winning Best New Director for his family drama Mad World.

Although the Golden Horse is styled on the US Academy Awards, the winners are decided by a jury like at the Cannes film festival.
