‘Film Meets Art’ Supercuts from Vugar Efendi

Django Unchained

Young Azerbaijan filmmaker Vugar Efendi put together famous art paintings next to movie scenes to show how the former has influenced the latter.

As Efendi notes on the supercut’s Vimeo page, “Art inspires cinema, cinema inspires art. As lover of both, I just wanted to look into films that are inspired by famous paintings throughout history.”

There are works by Botticelli, Thomas Gainsborough, Leonardo da Vinci, Andrew Wyeth and Sir John Everett MIllais, shown against films by Terry Gilliam, Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, Terence Malick and Lars Von Trier, with a second part that contain scenes from movies by Jonathan Glazer, Jean Luc Godard, Steven Spielberg, Tarsem Singh and many more. Good stuff.
