Filmmaker Colin Trevorrow Out as ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Director

Colin Trevorrow Is Out

Disney issued a short statement on Tuesday about Colin Trevorrow’s departure from the third trilogy Star Wars: Episode IX:

“Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.”

Earlier this year, Trevorrow’s third movie, The Book of Henry, opened to generally negative reviews so it is important to note that his firing is completely reasonable.

Penned by Simon Kinberg, Lawrence Kasdan, Rian Johnson and Michael Arndt, Star Wars: Episode IX will conclude the third Star Wars trilogy that began in 2015 with Star Wars: The Force Awakens and will continue with Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi (in theatres on December 15).

Episode IX is scheduled to be released on May 24, 2019. We’ll have to wait and see if the director change affects anything.
