First Images of Dwayne Johnson as HERCULES

UPDATE: The sneak peak below offers a far better view! Full trailer will be released at noon. Dwayne Johnson has also revealed  the new poster via his Twitter account! Check it below.

Ahead of the film’s teaser trailer premiere tomorrow, we’ve got our first look at Brett Ratner’s Hercules, starring pro wrestler turned action hero Dwayne Johnson.

Ratner’s take on the Greek legend is based on the Radical Studios graphic novel “Hercules: The Thracian Wars” and not to be confused with the Hercules movie that came out earlier this year.

Johnson explained the set of Hercules during a scene when his Greek hero was chained to stone pillars:

It’s when Hercules breaks through the chains and becomes the demi-god he was born to be. I was actually yelling with all the power I could muster, ‘I am Hercules!’ I gave it my all and made myself pass out every time we did it. But I honestly felt in that moment that I was born to play this role.

I’m so glad for him.

Johnson also told USA Today,

The No. 1 goal is to make the definitive version of Hercules. We know we’re going to be under a microscope.

You’re goddamn right, Dwayne.

This action adventure takes place after Hercules’ famous 12 labors, and has him “traveling with a group of mercenaries and cashing in on his famous name until he’s hired to train an army for an epic battle.”

Co-starring Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan, John Hurt, Rebecca Ferguson, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Aksel Hennie, Reece Ritchie and Tobias Santelmann, Paramount’s Hercules opens July 25th.
