First Look at Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft in ‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot
Production has already started on Warner Bros. and MGM’s Tomb Raider reboot and the first photos from the set have debuted online from The Daily Mail, featuring Alicia Vikander in costume as Lara Croft, “the only daughter of an aristocratic family who ventures out into dangerous locations in search of ancient artifacts with supernatural powers.”
We can’t post the photos, but you can check out some of the Tomb Raider reboot set photos by clicking here.
Vikander looks the part especially as the new version of Lara Croft (the older version of Lara was thicker, curvy, and looks like a playboy model). Judging from the set photos, they are actually drawing inspiration from the new Tomb Rider series, as has been widely reported. Angelina Jolie previously portrayed the character in 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003’s Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Lifeled.
Directed by Roar Uthaugh (The Wave) and co-starring Dominic West as Croft’s father Lord Richard Croft, Daniel Wu as ship captain Lu Ren, and Walton Goggins as villain Father Mathias Vogel, the new Tomb Raider movie is scheduled to hit theaters March 16, 2018.
Video game movies are still looking for their first hit and a way to crack it like the comic book movies did it. However, games can be very different from one another, much more than comics, plus there are even games that don’t have a narrative element at all. That’s luckily not the case here. Still surprised this is already filming and that Uncharted and The Last of Us movies were announced but stuck in development hell for now.
