Indie Revolver, who also posted a seemingly authentic design for the new Stormtroopers in Star Wars: Episode VII, have revealed another type of the Galactic Empire’s Stormtrooper, being called the Chrome Trooper.

According to the site, the next generation of Stormtroopers aren’t wearing hoods or cloaks; their metal collar actually extends up from the torso armor and curves around the head before dipping down again at the back. The site also report on a rumor that suggests they may or may not serve as a sort of private security group for Adam Driver’s villainous character so  they may not even be Imperial forces at all:

A couple sources have expressed that the chrome troopers are a private security force for Adam Driver’s character – silver mercenary rent-a-cops rather than true Imperial Forces for Adam Driver’s character. While we’ve not heard this from anyone directly, the most abundant rumor about Driver is that he’s a wealthy aristocrat with an interest in Sith artifacts.

Neither Disney nor J.J. Abrams have confirmed the news, so we’ll have to wait and see if any of this is the case until Star Wars: Episode VII opens on December 18, 2015. I am skeptical about Driver’s aristocratic background since the leaked images say he’s a rebel pilot. (On the same set we can see Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie, wearing an Imperial casual look).

The film also stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, Miltos Yerolemou, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, and Max von Sydow.

Take a look at the new Star Wars VII concept art that could be the work of Prequel Trilogy artist Doug Chiang.
