First Look at Don Cheadle as Miles Davis in Biopic MILES AHEAD

EW has posted the first look at Don Cheadle playing the famed musician Miles Davis from his upcoming feature film directorial debut, Miles Ahead.

Cheadle launched a Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign and as of right now the project has raised $262.785 of its $325,000 goal with under three days left. Looking back, it’s obvious this is a passion gig for him, and one that doesn’t have big Hollywood support.

Music has always been one of my passions. Since 6th grade, when I started listening to my parents’ Miles Davis records, his artistry has been an inspiration to me; he was someone who only ever followed a path as a runway to create a new one.

Surprisingly, Miles’ life, his passion, his creativity, his fire have never been brought to life in a film and the fact that his family has chosen me to do this now is an honor.

I want to tell a story that Miles himself would have wanted to see, something hip, cool, alive and AHEAD,

Cheadle noted.

Titled Miles Ahead, the film focuses on Davis’ transition back into music after a five year hiatus, and the tumultuous relationship with his first wife, Frances Taylor Davis.

The cast also includes Ewan McGregor as a Rolling Stone reporter and Zoe Saldana as Davis’ former wife Frances, as well as Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man) and Emayatzy Corinealdi. The trumpeter’s longtime collaborator Herbie Hancock is also be involved in the production to begin this week in Cincinnati.

Here’s our first look of Don Cheadle in character, complete with Davis’ beloved trumpet, cigarette and classic Jheri Curl mullet.

Odd choice of pose, but Miles had this weird 70s funk period. Also check out a short documentary about the film’s creative process.
