First Look at Ian McKellen as Sherlock in Bill Condon’s MR. HOLMES


Ian McKellen has shared the image of himself as a 93-year-old iteration of the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes in the actor’s upcoming film titled Mr. Holmes.

Bill Condon’s next project was previously titled A Slight Trick of the Mind (not heard anything about this movie until now). The new over-saturation of a character takes place in 1947,

where Holmes is now living in retirement with his housekeeper and her amateur-sleuthing son. Holmes is haunted by a cold case from fifty years ago, and sets out to solve it once and for all without his dear Watson at his side.

Set for release in 2015 and currently in pre-production, Mr. Holmes also stars Laura Linney as Ms. Munroe. FilmNation and BBC Films are producing.

McKellen shared the first image via social media and it’s certainly exciting to see him taking on yet another iconic role.


So, basically it’s Sir Ian McKellen with a hat (nice hat, though). The X-Men star accompanied the image with the words:

Over 70 actors have previously played Sherlock Holmes. Now he’s 93 years old and it’s my turn, in “Mr Holmes.” The great detective has long since retired to the countryside, with his caretaker (Laura Linney) and his bees. But there’s one last case to be solved. And there’s the sting
