First Look at Lucasfilm’s Animated STRANGE MAGIC; Coming Out in January

Lucasfilm is making a new animated movie Strange Magic that has nothing to do with Frozen and it’s coming out in January 2015. The blogosphere speculated that the title was the name of a Frozen sequel when Disney had registered the domain name last week.

A madcap fairy tale musical based on “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” featuring music from the past six decades. Strange Magic, directed by Gary Rydstrom (Toy Story Toons: Hawaiian Vacation) from a story by George Lucas and screenplay by Elf’s David Berenbaum, Brave’s Irene Mecchi and Rydstrom, features the voices of Alan Cumming, Kristin Chenowirth, Evan Rachel Wood, Maya Rudolph, Sam Palladio, newcomer Meredith Anne Bull, Elijah Kelley, Bob Einstein, Peter Stormare and Alfred Molina.

Moulin Rouge‘s Marius de Vries serves as both the musical director and composer. The film will be released via Touchstone Pictures on January 23, 2015 and tells the tale of a colorful cast of goblins, elves, fairies and imps, and their hilarious misadventures sparked by the battle over a powerful potion.

The movie that came out of nowhere features animation by Lucasfilm Animation Singapore and Industrial Light & Magic and if it’s anything like ILM’s work for Rango, count me in.
