First Look at TERMINATOR: GENYSIS Stars in Character

EW has the first official look at four of the stars of awkwardly spelled Terminator: Genisys, plus one skeletal robot.

Well, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Matt Smith and Jason Clarke also look slightly awkward in the two cover photos, likely shot by the magazine’s photographer.

According to Courtney, who plays Kyle Reese, Terminator: Genisys is a “reset” for the franchise and finds him being sent back to 1984 again. Emilia Clarke stars as Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke is John Connor and Matt Smith playing a new character in the series.

What happens next, I’ll let Entertainment Weekly explain:

Sarah Connor isn’t the innocent she was when Linda Hamilton first sported feathered hair and acid-washed jeans in the role. Nor is she Hamilton’s steely zero body-fat warrior in 1991’s T2. Rather, the mother of humanity’s messiah was orphaned by a Terminator at age 9. Since then, she’s been raised by (brace yourself) [Arnold] Schwarzenegger’s Terminator—an older T-800 she calls “Pops”—who is programmed to guard rather than to kill. As a result, Sarah is a highly trained antisocial recluse who’s great with a sniper rifle but not so skilled at the nuances of human emotion.

I think “orphaned by a Terminator” means a Terminator killed her parents, not that a Terminator was her father. Ok, to be fair, I don’t like this twist. I’d prefer a sequel to Salvation over this. Um, I don’t have a very good feeling about this movie.

Anyway, the first in a new trilogy of films also stars J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Byung-hun Lee, Michael Gladis, and Sandrine Holt.

Directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) from a screenplay by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier, Terminator: Genisys opens July 1, 2015.

Hit the jump to check out the characters in photos trying to “save a billion-dollar franchise.”

OMG they think, “Did I leave the gas on?”
