Based on Ransom Riggs’ best-selling novel, the film stars Asa Butterfield as the main boy plagued by nightmares after a tragedy strikes his family, Eva Green as the shape-shifting magical guardian Miss Peregrine, Judi Dench as Miss Avocet, Ella Purnell as Emma, Lauren McCrostie as Olive, Pixie Davies as Bronwyn, Cameron King as the invisible Millard, and Thomas and Joseph Odwell as the twins.

Opening September 30th, Burton’s film also stars Chris O’Dowd, Allison Janney, Rupert Everett, Terence Stamp and Samuel L. Jackson. The screenplay is written by X-Men: Days of Future Past‘s Jane Goldman. Check out the first movie photos in the gallery below.

The unforgettable, thrilling and haunting tale centers on 16-year-old Jacob (portrayed by Asa Butterfield), who follows clues that take him to a mysterious island, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores the abandoned bedrooms and hallways, he discovers that its former occupants were far more than peculiar; they possessed incredible powers. And they may still be alive.
