Yondu (Rooker), leader of Ravagers, abducted Peter Quill from Earth. Twenty-six years later, now also known as Star-Lord, Quill is in service to the Ravagers. He is tasked to steal an orb in a lifeless planet. He has then encountered Ronan’s (Lee Pace) men who are sent to recover the same orb. Ronan will utilize the sphere to start a war against the planet Xandar. He sends Gamora (Saldana), Thanos’ adopted daughter and a skilled assassin, to retrieve the orb from Quill. The quest for the orb has turned into a wild bounty hunt as Gamora, Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) and Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) search for Quill. Their fight over the orb has led them into prison. The gang manages to escape with the help of Drax (Bautista), who then joins the band of misfits by making a getaway spacecraft.

The true purpose of the orb and the threat it may cause to the galaxy are revealed when Gamora leads the team to The Collector (Del Toro). The team sets a truce and unites to protect Xandar.
