Hot on the heels of yesterday’s announcement of the start of production, Marvel Studios has released the first official image of Paul Rudd as the movie’s lead, Scott Lang in the Peyton Reed-directed Ant-Man.

The shot also features the Golden Gate bridge to prove that Reed’s upcoming film based on the “Ant-Man” comics started filming in San Francisco.

Revealed by USA Today, the photo depicts thief-turned-hero in a hooded sweatshirt looking a million miles away from the glamour of other Marvel heroes like Tony Stark, Thor or Captain America.

Scott finds a mentor in Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym, who invented the Ant-Man suit that allows a person to shrink to the size of an insect, but also increase his or her strength.

Rudd shared his excitement for this superhero adventure, saying:

“The way technology has advanced just in the last few years, picturing this world, what they can do with this kind of story line and character, I thought this could be something that could be very strange and hasn’t been seen before.”

The superhero heist flick also stars Evangeline Lilly as Pym’s daughter Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Pym’s star employee Darren Cross aka Yellowjacket and Michael Pena, as well as a number of actors that have joined the cast including Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, John Slattery, Neil Hamburger (aka Gregg Turkington) and rapper/actor T.I.

Ant-Man is set for release in the United States on July 17, 2015.

Check out the first Ant-Man image below. I appreciate the low-key approach in age of obnoxious movie faux hype.
